Show Notes
Powell pulls the punchbowl and $1.5 trillion in 'paper wealth' vanishes. I'll unpack Wall Street's meltdown, JPOW's 'maybe we'll cut, maybe we won’t' strategy, and how inflation still runs the show. Then, we take a serious look at the idea of a U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. Could an executive order make it happen overnight? Happy New Year booooost! 2024 was all about revamping cold storage security measures and finally running a node (Start9 is a beast!) This year I’ll be attempting to convert from exchanges to fully P2P and setting up some sort of mining rig. Looking into Bitaxe. I dig Gene Bean’s idea of a This Week In Bitcoin mining pool. I’d definitely be interested once I know what I’m doing haha. Let’s goooooo!

Trying the show for the first time, long time WBD listener,!!

I think the unfortunate part of the El Salvador news isn't so much the changes themselves as it is the fact that it's the IMF twisting their arm into making the changes. The IMF is a predatory institution designed to exploit countries like El Salvador. I recommend people read Hidden Repression by Alex Gladstein to learn about how the IMF operates. The book even has a nice Bitcoin angle at the end!

For the IRA discussion, I agree that I don’t want to lock most of my savings up in one. I’ll continue buying on River and transferring to cold wallet. In my case, I already have money in an employer’s 401k. I’m looking to roll that over into a bitcoin friendly IRA to invest a portion of it, maybe 50%, in bitcoin, and the rest in traditional stocks/ETFs.

Part 2 Your best bet would be to take a personal loan getting just as good of a rate or better with none of the risk. or wait until the space becomes more competitive and you get rates like 2 to 3%. Unless of course you have issues with your credit score in which case you might not be the best person to be taking out a loan in the first place. But maybe there is an example where this is beneficial? Again, I love the content, keep up the good work!

Part 1 Short time listener, first time zapper. Love the show and hope to hear many more episodes in the future! A few things about the bitcoin backed loans with salt to note. First, the rates are as high as a non-collateralized personal loan, even though you give one to two times the amount in bitcoin, to be held as collateral. Second, there seems to be no risk on the side of Salt.

Just a test because I’ve been trying to boost for the past few weeks with no success using the Fountain app. If this goes through there will be two more boosts that have my message split between them.

Curious to your thoughts on the new @npub1ex7mdykw7… bill pay feature and how it might compare to your Fold experience.
