We've started to do 'bowls' for family and friend gatherings. Each person brings a few things. Think of all the options at a Chipotle or similar. You can set a theme for the bowl like Mexican, Indian, Korean etc. It seems to work well for dietary restrictions as you build your own bowl. Also I think it allows people to put in as much or as little work as they want. The challenge is coordination, with small groups a group chat works but large groups you need a sign-up spreadsheet with categories.

The next time you need an EV charger I recommend openevse. It is open hardware/software. https://openevse.com/ I bought mine in 2017. It lives in my garage in MN. I have had to fix it twice but ordered the parts fixed it myself. I just ordered the esp32 based wifi module to upgrade the original esp8266 which will let me run new firmware with features I'm excited about. I just started using the HACS integration as well. I don't have solar yet but openEVSE has features for charging based on solar production.

The thing on my desk I fidget with most is a stress ball that looks like the earth branded by Littlefuse. I also fidget with a plastic ring with a fake stone that spins and makes a satisfying sound. It fits my pinky...

Thank you for your coverage of scale and planet nix.

I just used opencode with their free model to unpin then remove a bunch of pinned but unsupported flatpaks. At work I've been using GitHub copilot for a year or so. So far it is just making me slightly more productive. However more important is I will more often try things I'm less familiar with because the cost of trying them is a couple minutes writing a prompt. For example I added dark mode to an internal JavaScript site on a Friday afternoon. It took hours overall, my 1st time using JavaScript, but the 1st prompt gave immediate results and I got hooked.

OpenWRT as access point tip: by default if you connect another router to a LAN port of an openWRT wifi device. The openwrt wifi device will operate as an AP. However, if someone fiddles with it and forgets or doesn't know to use LAN port (vs WAN)... Better to configure as AP for permanent installs.

Hi Chris and Ange, air quality monitoring with home assistant could be a topic for a future LUP or launch. I have 3 different monitors currently. #1 DIY air gradient based on ESP https://www.airgradient.com/documentation/diy/ #2 Airthings View Plus - HA integration is cloud based :( https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/airthings/ #3 Air-Q pro https://shop.air-q.com/air-Q-pro-air-analyser-13-sensors expensive but so far my favorite and I've only had it for a few days. Local Polling integration type. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/airq/ Do either of you monitor your indoor air quality? https://fountain.fm/show/5UsMo2IL7LwDbAVWlJ4a @nevent1qvzqqqp…

If I think from a gift perspective and back track to a theme. I mainly receive microcenter gift cards so my theme is DIY computers and electronics?

Hey Chris, What is more bleeding edge than nixos-unstable? The nixpkgs 'master' branch. I'm using overlays to access it, not yoloing my whole OS. I just added it so I could get the latest nexusmod-app :) https://github.com/nikolarobottesla/infra-nix-config/commit… https://fountain.fm/show/dWiuBeqpDSM86AwXRXov @nevent1qvzqqqp…

From FOSSY in Portland OR: AI generated reports of non-existent bugs are clogging up bug bounty programs. The talk on this "plausible AI slop" starts at 6:43:00. Really good layout of the problem. If you haven't already, check out Jenny Parks, Star Trek Cat books from your local digital library. They're very short and very funny. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek_Cats

This ZigBee dongle contains same SoC as HAyellow: https://sonoff.tech/en-us/products/sonoff-zigbee-3-0-usb-do… For migration I would make sure the firmware versions match (firmware can be flashed). I bought this dongle a year ago but only just plugged it into my pi4 HA. I've seen some chatter about bad knockoffs so buy from a reputable source.

Tip for the privacy techy person. The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek base model doesn't have a cell modem. It has two smaller touch screens instead of one giant one which means they including more buttons and knobs. The base model still includes adaptive cruise, lane keeping, emergency braking, Android auto etc. I wonder if the low end of other models and brands are preferable for some. https://fountain.fm/show/dWiuBeqpDSM86AwXRXov @nevent1qvzqqqp…

The ksmbd CVE-2025-37899 mentioned in the live feed is also an AI story. Sean was benchmarking OpenAI o3 ability to find a vulnerability that they already knew about when it found 37899. Also note the false positive rate is very high, they indicate a signal to noise ratio ~1:50. https://sean.heelan.io/2025/05/22/how-i-used-o3-to-find-cve…

Asking us to share our pain about getting thieved made me think of Sybok in Star Trek 5. "Share your pain. Share your pain with me – and gain strength from the sharing." https://fountain.fm/show/5UsMo2IL7LwDbAVWlJ4a @nevent1qvzqqqp…
