I boosted in a while back saying I am done with Windows and am making the jump to NixOS as a daily driver. Well here is an update on that. Since my daily is also my gaming PC, it proved to be a bit more of a challenge. I ended up moving onto Kubuntu since I use Ubuntu at work and am familiar. However, hope is not lost. I am currently working on migrating my entire home lab to NixOS (where it makes sense). I am a docker and Ansible guy so the declarative config makes a lot sense to me. Merry Linux-mas!!! If you could ask Santa for any ONE thing, no matter the price, what would it be?

NixOS -> 1, a-a-ron -> 0. I boosted in a while back saying I’m switching from Windows to NixOS as my daily. Well, NixOS is kicking my butt. I decided to switch to Kubuntu because I am most familiar with Ubuntu (because of my job), and I play games with friends on that PC. I was spending more time troubleshooting Nix than anything I was doing at my job. I realized that I need this PC to be my “come home and relax” computer. BUT, that doesn’t mean I’m done trying to wrangle the beast! I have switched one of my dev servers to NixOS and it makes so much more sense. I come from a container background and run basically everything with docker/compose, so that helps with migration to Nix. At some point I’ll try it on a workstation again, but it is FANTASTIC as a server. Might be moving my whole rack to it (where it makes sense). Love the podcasts, and thanks for introducing NixOS.
