Show Notes

Dave Bradley is a Bitcoin OG and entrepreneur based in Calgary, Alberta. He co-founded Bull Bitcoin, and helped take Bitcoin Well public. He’s an outspoken advocate for Alberta independence, arguing that the breakup of the Canadian confederation and Bitcoin are two expressions of the same underlying shift toward sovereignty and jurisdictional competition. In this conversation, Dave lays out the case for Alberta seceding from Canada and Bitcoin's role in opting out of failing systems. → Please like, comment, share & subscribe, to help me beat the suppressing algo's. Following up on your comments about Stacker News. It’s not that they want it to be siloed away from nostr. It was started before nostr was a thing and they’re building integration. Right now it’s similar to Fountain: if you have an npub, your posts can go out to nostr relays and be broadcast as notes but not everyone does and their posts live entirely on the site. I believe further integration is on the devs roadmap.

Even more than the norm on nostr, I was struck by how much calmer the conversations are on Stacker News than is typical on social media.

The climate scam primarily worked by restricting funding to scientists who came to the right conclusions and cited the right studies. In my experience, most of the researchers are honest actors.

If you aren’t already familiar with their work, I think you’d be interested in the work of Jonathan Haidt and Arnold Kling. They’re both social scientists who were interested in understanding these different types of groups that form societies. Each of them independently found there to be three main groups that breakdown roughly along the lines you laid out. Although, something weird may have happened to the left because conformity with authority isn’t usually part of it. You would most likely be in the smaller of the three groups that approximately maps to libertarians.

It seems like those who stopped supporting Trump because he, contrary to his campaign rhetoric and 1st term actions, started a new regime change war (how he’s framing it) are the ones who updated their priors. Clinging to their priors seems more like what the people who continue supporting him are doing. What evidence do you think they’re ignoring that suggests this is different than previous presidents?

What is it that could be accomplished in Iran that you would consider the costs worth it? And, how many regime change attempts have to go badly before we can say they should stop attempting it? Also, why do they deserve the benefit of the doubt? I’d say the US track record is such that there’s a very high burden on them to convince us that an intervention is prudent.

There’s a really interesting tension between two of the things you mentioned wrt the ColdCard situation. 1. The chain is public and people are tracking the stolen bitcoin. 2. Bitcoin is ideally an uncensorable bearer asset. From 1, we want the thief to be caught and the victims to be made whole. From 2, we want the thief to be able to get away with it.
