The climate scam primarily worked by restricting funding to scientists who came to the right conclusions and cited the right studies. In my experience, most of the researchers are honest actors.
The most divisive people, of course, were those of us who didn’t want to completely excise the medically noncompliant from society.

If you aren’t already familiar with their work, I think you’d be interested in the work of Jonathan Haidt and Arnold Kling. They’re both social scientists who were interested in understanding these different types of groups that form societies. Each of them independently found there to be three main groups that breakdown roughly along the lines you laid out. Although, something weird may have happened to the left because conformity with authority isn’t usually part of it. You would most likely be in the smaller of the three groups that approximately maps to libertarians.
I’m genuinely curious about whether I would beat Sasha in a game of 1-on-1

What is it that could be accomplished in Iran that you would consider the costs worth it? And, how many regime change attempts have to go badly before we can say they should stop attempting it? Also, why do they deserve the benefit of the doubt? I’d say the US track record is such that there’s a very high burden on them to convince us that an intervention is prudent.
You should check out the history of the square root of two. That was the first non-rational real number that was discovered. It became like a heresy amongst the Pythagoreans to disclose that secret.
Predyx is way more fun because it uses Bitcoin but it doesn’t have the liquidity and volume you would need. Yet. Probably a lot more mispricings vs Polymarket or Kalshi though.

Following up on your comments about Stacker News. It’s not that they want it to be siloed away from nostr. It was started before nostr was a thing and they’re building integration. Right now it’s similar to Fountain: if you have an npub, your posts can go out to nostr relays and be broadcast as notes but not everyone does and their posts live entirely on the site. I believe further integration is on the devs roadmap.

Even more than the norm on nostr, I was struck by how much calmer the conversations are on Stacker News than is typical on social media.

There’s an interesting book called Fake Invisible Catastrophes that talks a bit about how and why so many hysterias aren’t around things that are individually verifiable.
I agree with that whole opening segment…and still think you’re wrong. I also agree that this is the best podcast. Your interests and sentiments overlap with mine and yet you also have a different perspective than me.

Trump won by so much because people hate being afraid of voicing their opinions

It seems like those who stopped supporting Trump because he, contrary to his campaign rhetoric and 1st term actions, started a new regime change war (how he’s framing it) are the ones who updated their priors. Clinging to their priors seems more like what the people who continue supporting him are doing. What evidence do you think they’re ignoring that suggests this is different than previous presidents?
There is something to be said for being where you want to be. Being open to the collisions life presents and seeing how it all works out.
As a fellow hater of standard career advice, I appreciate the self-help ramble.

I’ve been meaning to write about this in more detail, but I think the recovered device scenario is the most likely one for how there could be decades of super advanced secret science.
The Science really is badly broken, as Ehrlich said but didn’t believe. I doubt he had any comprehension of why he was able to be so wrong.

Great episode. I shall aim to always feel as young as Chris thinks I am. A quick note on the ethereum thing. I would be cautious buying into the tokenization narrative to any significant degree. There are a few tests running on ethereum and a lot of stablecoins use ethereum but most large entities building in the space are planning to use their own private rails.

We talked to @Chrisliss about how NY sports fans choose their teams. Listen to our extra-many episode to find out. Btw, k00b’s probably right about Brunson’s height. Most players lie about how tall they are.

A couple of physics points. Electrons don’t really orbit in the same way planets do. They have a set of different stable probability distributions through the space around the nucleus but they aren’t moving around it. Then on gravity, it doesn’t run out because it’s not actually pulling on you. It’s how you experience the distorted space around massive objects, so the apparent pull is just objects moving along their shortest path which has become curved. The closer thing to perpetual motion is where the ground gets the energy to keep holding you up.

I’m not sure why people need Trump to have only one motivation. My base case is that he genuinely wants to be president for vanity reasons and he genuinely believes he can do it well and he enjoys grifting people and he’s been compromised in some way.
