@npub14mcddvsjs… this podcast was fantastic, but I left genuinely disappointed that Bitcoin never entered the conversation as the computational reference point for information, energy, and time. Bitcoin could have taken this discussion dramatically deeper and would have allowed you to push back directly on several of Melvin’s assumptions. For years, Bitcoin has broadly been discussed as “energy,” but our understanding of what that actually means physically has remained shallow despite the metaphor. What stood out most to me in this conversation was Melvin’s insistence that reality is better understood as a computation rather than a simulation. I think that instinct is exactly right, even though the language drifted back toward “simulation” several times afterward. The distinction matters immensely. A simulation is derivative. It inherits time, law, and state transitions from some prior substrate. Computation is different. Computation is the process by which state transitions are actually resolved. Simulation theory constantly skips over the deepest question of what produces time itself? People speak as though chronology can simply be inherited from a prior frame and avoid the thermodynamic problem entirely. Or time can be "simulated". Bitcoin answers that directly; time is computed. Bitcoin is the only empirical system that openly demonstrates a thermological process producing a chronological state. Energy is expended in search of a valid nonce within a bounded mathematical domain, and once found, one singular block of time emerges where one state becomes real and all others are excluded. Difficulty-bound proof of work transforms probabilistic possibility into irreversible chronology. That is computation. Melvin’s point starting around 38:45 was so important and why I wish you had pushed much harder there. He is explicitly searching for the mass-energy equivalence of information through a computational protocol.…

Lots to say here Cru. I think it’s probably time we record a rip between us. From my perspective, I think Shannon’s framing is directionally correct. The Genesis of Bitcoin is a zero-Shannon state, but it does not trend toward the generic. It trends toward increasing informational complexity, but within a bounded phase space. That constraint is the key. Bitcoin gives us the external perspective of a bounded totality. That’s the missing context in wrt Shannon. The double spend experiment in Bitcoin is the concrete, empirical counterpart to what the double slit is trying to describe abstractly. In Bitcoin, we can see the full state space, the resolution boundary, and the resulting history all from the outside perspective. A ledger of blocks of time is what a universe looks like when you can observe its totality. The semantics of the “Big Bang” framing is misleading and is equally the error of cosmology. It suggests an unconstrained explosion into disorder, when in reality a universe can only emerge once information is constrained in a way that allows identity to persist. Bitcoin is the reification of that structure. Each block further constrains the system, extending a single, non-contradictory history, while at the same time increasing the complexity of information within that bounded domain. Maximal constraint at the level of totality, paired with increasing informational “richness” internally. Shannon information is growing relative to a fixed, bounded substrate of value and rules. What matters becomes what is matter, and epistemology becomes ontology as a temporal process of identity conservation. A transition from highly ordered to generic as a description fits the Genesis of Bitcoin better than a “Big Bang,” but even then it’s incomplete. This isn’t a one-time event. It’s an ongoing process: the creation of new bounded totalities within pre-existing ones, the transition is temporal. A hierarchical unfolding where localized perspectives are continuously resolved…

The ledger is the mathematical object of time. A block of time has the highest explanatory power of time itself because there is no more fundamental unit of causal resolution beneath it. The block is the limit. The block is what gives rise to the wave. Bitcoin is the logical reification of particle and field through the UTXO and the network. The particle is a localized conserved state, the field is the distributed network of possible state transitions. Time must therefore be quantized as blocks at the Planck scale, because contradiction cannot be allowed at the fundamental boundary of change. No double spends at the Planck ticks of time. If Bitcoin’s energy is theoretically calculable, then by Einstein, it possesses mass equivalence and therefore a form of matter; informational and chronological matter structured through irreversible state transitions. If there is matter, there is gravity. Bitcoin therefore has calculable gravity as an energetic system anchored in temporal order. IMO, stars do not create time. Their transactions of energy are time AND those transactions occur within time. But transactions can only resolve coherently through global blocks of causal order. There is no second best chain because there is no second coherent history. Bitcoin is the reification of a computational universe perceived in totality from the outside, a bounded temporal system where we can observe the full chain from Genesis to present. That perspective only emerges once logically and universally. Bitcoin is the explanatory structure and perspective through which coherent knowledge becomes possible.

@npub1gcrqwgsnr… this was a fun one. I think we should be more accurate with the language here. Bitcoin is not a model, or theory of a universe. Bitcoin is a universe perceived from the exterior of the temporal substrate within our universe. As we push on the limitations of fiat knowledge, we must bend the knee to the realization that a theory of physics, a theory of time or a theory of information can NEVER explain the universe. There can never be a theory of everything. Bitcoin is not a theory of energy, a theory of time or a theory of information, it is energy, time and information instantiated thru physical computation. It’s not theoretical, it’s proof. Bitcoin is not a theory of everything; it’s an instantiation of what everything must logically, temporally, and mathematically look like from the exterior when you strip things down to the base field of information and value. Bitcoin is proof. If you understand the formal limits that Gödel and Russell established, it should be obvious why a theory can never have explanatory power of the universe. Bitcoin formally solves Turing’s Halting problem through discrete proof of work, and supersedes the limitations of Godel and Russell by instantiating time as a process, coordinate and object. Truth can only be computed in/as time. Knowledge = Truth. As far a phase space, the UTXO map/territory gives us an empirical reference that is not theory; each new utxo opens up a new phase space bounded by the variables of satoshi balance, fee market, spend/script type, total addresses (people to spend with) and the preference for finite bits/time. It reveals that the utxo set is always transforming, yet the base knowledge is preserved temporally and externally as physical bits. Knowledge is defined by the exterior, not the interior. The interior observes the knowledge, but creation/authorship is external to the chain. For something to remain as knowledge (the jug) it must persi…

I agree @npub1gcrqwgsnr…, anybody who is afraid of AI does not actually understand Bitcoin, nor AI. We are at the event horizon of the greatest inflation of information the universe/man will ever see. True knowledge and wisdom is going to be inflated away by noise and information with zero constraint. Only those appended to Bitcoin will weather the storm IMO. I pray more can find both of our messages before we are totally drown out. As the dollar inflates it loses its ability to measure. Every day the measurement is more meaningless, more noise than signal. We are witnessing the epistemology, or the explanatory power of the dollar, Fiat system, Fiat academia and centralized power being ripped out of the system and relocated into Bitcoin as its gravity grows with every block. Bitcoin has the highest explanatory power of reality; knowledge must move to the gravity well. The only answer for AI is to build on top of Bitcoin otherwise it exist as pure contradiction. There is no second best constraint. Bitcoin is the only horn (besides the universe) whose constraint is eternal; the reification of computational universe from the exterior POV. 🫡
