My take on the death of binge tv: I don’t think it’s because people are not watching, but rather people just don’t know that there are things to watch. Companies are cutting back on spending and the first to go is marketing. I didn’t know about Rick and Morty or Silo. Also, it could be the game of thrones effect.

Been a minute so here’s a little extra. Also, I really like the talk about stack monitoring. One thing that took me forever to realize is that Prometheus actually has a way to dynamically add nodes to the scrape config. So instead of manually adding every host in the main config, you point to a wildcard pattern and then create a simple json file per host. Best part: no need to restart Prometheus when adding a host. An Ansible playbook’s dream.

Let’s be clear. Nobody likes listening to ads. If you say you do, I’ve got a good therapist I can introduce you to. That being said, I will listen to thousands of hours of ads if it means that you get paid. (Even in the membership feed if need be) My only ask is that they don’t just randomly pop up in the middle of a segment.

Catching up on some missed episodes so here’s a little extra. You talk all the time about the nomad lifestyle. Are there any challenges to living the RV life? (Aside from the nuances not common to household living) I imagine it’s nothing but great. People turn into nomads after retirement for a reason…

Here is a little extra for the holidays. I think a Holiday Home Lab special is a great idea and I will be submitting mine as soon as I can. Maybe you can include an award for longest running server?

I heard a while back mention of TalosOS and it intrigued me. I haven’t had a chance to play with it until now. A need arose for a dev Kubernetes cluster so I figured I would try it. It’s stupid how easy Talos makes it. What was originally a week’s worth of effort was done in like 5 minutes. I will be playing around more with it but very happy so far. As always, love the show. Thanks for all you do!

Hot take on hobbies: watching TV and reading a book is NOT a hobby. That is “entertainment”. A hobby needs some kind of effort on your part that potentially builds a skill. BUT, reading the most books or becoming an expert in a TV show ARE hobbies IMO.

I know it’s only ever played in the bootleg of the show, but my favorite AI song you have made is the “Time Killing Song” you play sometimes during the pre-show break. Can you share your Suno profiles somewhere? I think it would be fun to use the “College Accapella Group” profile.

I shared my New Year’s resolution in LUP: The year of NixOS. However, I wanted to share my wife’s because it’s interesting. The 10 x 10 challenge. Play 10 board games 10 times. Sounds hard, but she did it last year with a full time hospital job and everything. She is obsessed with board games. Makes for easy Christmas/Birthday shopping.

My New Year’s resolution is going to be the year of NixOS. As a DevOps engineer, It’s everything I want out of an operating system, but I have been too afraid to really deep dive into it. I am currently in the middle of installing it on my daily driver, with heavy influence from the configs from the config confessions episode. Wish me luck! Happy New Year! https://fountain.fm/show/dWiuBeqpDSM86AwXRXov @nevent1qvzqqqp…
