10k Nevermind. Found the answer to my question. The key is the ‘spread’ that an exchange uses. Paying 2 fees with Strike or Cash could end up being cheaper than 1 fee from an exchange that doesn’t force me to use their custodial wallet.

10k Just got my hardware wallet. Is there a way to purchase bitcoin/sats directly to the device. If I purchase with Strike/Cash/etc., then transfer to the hardware wallet address, won’t I pay 2 transfer fees? If there’s a way to avoid one of those fees, I’d love to know.

2.2k I’m doing the sudo savings & checking accounts thing with my sats: I save at River and keep that completely separate from my boostin’ sats. I haven’t saved enough to warrant a cold card yet, but I’m thinking about how to handle that each week that I listen here. My boostin’ sats stay in Alby mostly for use with Castimatic, but I also have some at Fountain & TrueFans.

If something is not implemented then it simply doesn’t exist for the average user. 99.99999% of Spark users don’t even know a CLI app exists let alone how to use it. Without local caching and unilateral exit actually implemented in the app and having hard dependency on operator cooperation to exit then it’s custodial.
Listen I actually like Spark and think it makes reasonable tradeoffs in a world without covenants, but as it stands it’s a custodial product. Happy to revise this once we see an actual implementation of unilateral exit and more operators and LSPs, but it’s just the honest reality today.

10k Reporting back regarding CoinJar. So far so good. Have updated my Jupiter party subscription to use the attached Mastercard, now paying for my membership with sats! Few retail purchases this week too and it’s working great. Hurts to spend those sats though! Also flipping back to core with config tweak given the knots BIP444 shenanigans. 5k Great show you guys have. I love to hear about the behind the scenes work when it comes to podcasting 2.0. With regards to with auto generating voice for podcasting. This is happening with YouTube shorts and a lot of summary type videos for movies and shows so I wouldn't be surprised the same thing happens with podcasting. You're alright though, for me I do prefer the personal touch with podcasts so hopefully it won't be as big an issue as it is on video sharing sites.

3.3k This wasn't me, but my brother left his really expensive razor gaming phone on the roof of his car and drove off and the poor thing flew a good 10-15 feet and completely shattered both sides of the phone. It was also safe to assume someone ran over it too. To put simply, he was really pissed at himself because those damn phones are expensive.
Not to say I either had my fair share of broken phones, but... I don't spend a ton on them. Though, even at my price range(motos), replacing three phones in a single year and now four phones? Yeah, that adds up very quickly. Kids are expensive.

2k Update... Well that was a bust with River. I did the ID verification, KYC BS, and the next day, my account was closed before I even had a chance to buy any Bitcoin. I had issues before with my address but this is a first for a exchange... Oh well... at least there are other ways to buy Bitcoin.

2.2k Finally got my account made with River and likely the kyc process wasn't painful. Had issues in the past due to my address. I still have some banking things I need to complete before I can start buying Bitcoin, but thank you for the recommendation and the affiliate link. I might do the saving account that River have going but I have my reservations.
Also had a bad week with my fountain wallet locking up due to a transaction. I'm realizing that I need to self sovereign my lightening wallets with something like alby. Eitherway still Loving the show and look forward to learning from ya.

Lads, I just made the switch to NixOS GNOME for the media PC from Windows. Changed/added about three lines in the config and bam! working. Spousal approval 10/10 too, which of course is all that matters. Pretty happy with the performance on the old AMD Phenom II X6 - boots up fast and seems to handle all media types at 4K. The 5.1 surround sound analogue output and Bluetooth for the mouse even worked out of the box! Thumbs up on the map work last week, Bakers Hill, Western Australia was correct for 6562. Think I have the username set correct now in fountain? Jupiter Broadcasting shows are revitalising my interest in Linux and self hosting, thanks team really appreciate it. Cheers, Retro Gear.
