The reason why I'm so passionate about Bitcoin now are a lot of the same reasons I've been passionate about Linux since 2014 so it seems like it would be a great fit.

16k I am an IT sysadmin that also enjoys coding. LLMs have changed by job a little bit in that I don't have to spend as much time sorting through search results to find solutions to my problems. I'm able to find things sooner and have answers that are more catered to the problem that I am having. For coding, I enjoy doing it and I don't have a pressure to release anything faster than normal so agentic coding hasn't really been a huge part of it yet. If there was a pressure to ship mostly functional programs sooner, I might be using it more but at the moment it is just a fabulous search tool

4.1k Chris, I think you probably would end up spending more BTC if there weren't taxes on it either since all these boosts are essentially a locked up cash flow for you. You'd be able to dip into the boost income and pay the monthly bills with less cost

My self hosted lightning would then just become my checking account and I would have to do all these calculations on how much fiat I need to save to pay the bills and put the rest into BTC cold storage. Could take my whole pay in BTC

I wrote a little rust program to roll a virtual dice using the rand crate, then used that running on my desktop which at that time had been online and doing a bunch of things in the background for a while to get some random dice rolls. Going to check out Bitkey and also maybe an ESP32 based seedsigner

16k For those asking: Mining pool update I have a proof of concept set up. However it is based on the project called P2PoolV2. The payout system doesn't work yet so there's no point for me to share the link and for us to burn energy without a reward. The pool by default uses PPLNS shares but there are other payout methods being implemented. I will update again when there is a minimum viable product of P2PoolV2 available

5k Speaking of node-ing up, I was looking the mempool of my node during block 919953 which was also during the AWS outage. I was confused why a block would be taking almost 6 times as long as it should be. The best thesis I can come up with is maybe the big pools use AWS for orchestration software. Is there a better explanation that you could think of, or am I just inexperienced and don't realize these anomalies just happen sometimes? Also odd that after almost an hour, it gets mined by an unknown solo miner.

5k I have a goal of getting to 1 BTC. I have DCA setup and a hardware wallet, but as I look more into price targets that people set, I feel like I need to stack faster than I can normally DCA. I feel like I'm going crazy trying to find ways that I can stack faster with mining, loans, treasury companies, etc. As someone whose been in Bitcoin for a long time, do you think I'm focusing too much on an arbitrary goal and I should just stay humble and stack when I can? I'm 29 for context.

2k I would be interested in hearing your guide on setting up Knots on Start9. I got Knots setup on Umbrel this weekend and that was incredibly easy. I hear people I respect use Start9, but I don't see the appeal to it. Seems like it has less applications and still has the same hardware limitations.

4.1k I think the four year cycle still exists because our political system in the United States is also a four year cycle to an extent. We get at least lately a different president every four years and it just goes back and forth between the two major parties and the four-year cycle is indicative of market during those policy changes that the different parties make and their ethos of how to run the country

2k I keep hearing people say that the sentiment is the lowest it's been in a long time. Personally I don't think the quantum and Epstein stuff is anything more than FUD. If you want a home miner, the Canaan Avalon Q is a great entry point. 90 terahash, looks just like a desktop, and it runs on 120 so no modifications necessary. 10k I'm still running Knots, but I'm deliberately not signaling for BIP-110. I have a Bitaxe solo mining with Datum Gateway, but won't be moving a large amount of my hashrate to Ocean at least until after all this settlles down. If spam is as much of an issue as Luke and Mechanic state, why does the majority of the network not agree with them? Either fix the spam issue permanently, or let it be. A temporary soft fork is just an unnecessary way for them to feel like they got a win after they lost the fight against Core v30.

re: fusion power I'm not an expert, just someone who has been interested in nuclear physics and done some research, so if there's anyone out there in the audience who knows more, please correct me We're actually getting there. ITER is planned to be operational as the first power grid scale fusion power plant in France by 2037, japan has had a working fusion generating station since 2023 called JT-60. So for Helion to be making a much smaller scale fusion generator compared those those projects, I believe it. Smaller and more efficient stations might be the way to go for the future. Would make the power grid more resilient since if there are many smaller systems adding power to the grid, the chance of a chain blackout is less. Also fusion has minimal waste compared to fission. The fuel is deuterium which is Hydrogen with 1 proton and 1 neutron smashed into Tritium which is Hydrogen with 1 proton and 2 neutrons. The most waste producing part is creating the tritium since that involves lithium mining
