Andrew Reed joins us today to discuss building soil, food, and self-sufficiency with low tech mushroom cultivation. Andrew is a fungal geneticist, educator, and founder of Mossy Creek Mushrooms in East Tennessee, where he runs one of the most diverse independent culture libraries in North America. His work centers on practical, scalable mycology—using mushrooms to build soil, strengthen food systems, reduce waste streams, and empower small growers with simple, repeatable methods that actually work in the real world. Off topic: Would converting out of liquid (into lightning or back on-chain) automatically incur a taxable event? Not looking for advice, just a thought experiment. Tis the season!

Bad take on BTC? I think Mr. Wonderful’s “break the chain,” comment on quantum FUD was embarrassingly bad considering it was espoused from a position of informed authority at the time.

Interesting how people in the space were calling the 4 year cycle dead or never existed (expecting it to go UP against the 4 year cycle’s down prediction) while I’m sitting here seeing it go down and down. Is it possible that 2025 was the up year, but whales taking profits just masked the top, and now in 2026 we are “down” relative to where 2025 would have been?

I believe I saw the floor in real time at 60k during this last leg down. The bounce back looked almost like it was programmed. Maybe everyone set their auto buy back in at 60k? Miners may need to brace themselves as The chart readers touting this “Capital Rotation Event” think it’ll go lower still in Q3&4.

BTC for the holidays? I’d like to set my wife up with a river account so she can start stacking sats. If your question infers a component of evangelizing then probably not. Giving someone something they dont want or aren’t ready for might be like giving them a holiday sweater in July. Likely stored away where they don’t use it and forgotten.

Bug vs glitch; aren’t these talking points often rehearsed and echoed across the talking heads in support of some over arching narrative? Even though Tom never said “glitch,” they still need to get the talking point out. Remember, the media is supposed to tell you what to think right? Also, thanks for going above and beyond…producing the same show twice in a row is rough! Thanks for all you do. Love the signal.

Chris I’ve heard you talk about on-chain fees getting higher in the future making it unfeasible to manage multiple small amount UTXO’s. (Episode 8) If I DCA via Strike then move consolidated large chunks into a hot wallet, do I still have all those little UTXO’s from strike or did I not create a new larger one moving them to my app wallet? What if I then move from the app wallet to cold storage? Still preserves the multiple small UTXO’s? Thanks.

Love the signal. I have a weekly/monthy budget for buys. I opt for slightly larger amounts than a typical daily and buy when I see the bigger down legs. But not the “all in” smash buys. I’ve heard straight DCA beats timing the market over the long run but I like knowing I got even a little bit at the lowest drops. And if eat through my budget prematurely then I can always sell my car, the dog, the kids, anything I can get my hands on until I mine more fiat. But can’t we all agree buying at any price today is a good deal in four years?

I work in manufacturing. Our company has softly mandated that all supervisors and leaders must use AI daily. I see this as more of a crowdsourcing effort to yield Innovation. AI may dissolve some positions but it’ll be a minute before that actually happens and substantially affect the markets. IMO.

I’ve been wondering how on earth these institutions have been buying tens of thousands of actual BTC when only a finite amount can be mined a day. It can’t all be OTC from exchanges. I imagined it’d have to be backroom sweetheart deals you never hear about. Go figure. All the more reason to keep stacking sats and self custy. When the rule makers can change the rules THEY follow on a whim, it negates the incentive to participate.

What about a “dirty orange summer,” to the tune of Glen Danzig’s song “dirty black summer,” for a bad bitcoin summer. It’s now stuck in my head.

What in your opinion would be a valuable next technological step for a “sat-stacking pleb newbie ” …invest in a solo miner or node up (or something else entirely)? What’s the next baby step that benefits a newb AND the network? Regarding hardware wallets, I gifted tangem wallets for Christmas.

Unless square has an SBR they’re likely to immediately just convert that to Fiat. Keeping an ever-changing asset on the books would be a nightmare. They’re only interested in the velocity of transactions and the fees associated with them. Although I appreciate the novelty in widespread adoption, Why would I exchange a hard asset for a depreciating one let alone a consumable one. Who wants to go down in history as purchasing the most expensive cup of coffee in the world or pizza for that matter. I’ll just stack and hodl thank you.

I make a 5 mushroom mead from shiitake, maitake, chaga, reishi, and cordyceps with golden rod blossom honey. INCREDIBLE! The umami so satisfying. I also suspect the process of tea steeping it and primary fermenting it extracts maximal health constituents from it all. I’ll should plan to bring some at my next tsp barter blanket. Thanks for the fung show, Jack!

What an episode, thoroughly enjoyed it. Learned something new but also felt it was an interview that the host and the guest were able to connect during the show. Almost and old school interview podcast from the early days, like when a potential long term relationship was being cultivated.
