I loved the AppleTalk episode! And remember if you want to play with it again in 5-10 years it'll still be supported in NetBSD ;-) https://fountain.fm/show/dWiuBeqpDSM86AwXRXov @nevent1qvzqqqp…

I did appreciate the RedHat coverage, though it left me feeling down (their fault not yours) ... and apparently uninspired to boost!
-
I use KeePass with syncthing and it works great for my needs. Love the Gnome Commander pick, and it's a nice little bit of nostalgia remembering when Gnome initially shipped Midnight Commander as their file manager.

I'd bet Saylor's selling btc is because of whatever Galaxy Brain thing I don't understand that separates what he's doing from a Ponzi scheme. But if it's not that, maybe it's simple? Buy low sell high, and he's betting against a hot bitcoin summer?
-
Loved the LFNW coverage! I've got DragonflyBSD and OpenBSD both downloaded. I've never run either of them before, so let's see how this goes. 666 devil horns etc etc
-
Hope you've been having a good Linux Fest. Looking forward to hearing Sunday's show, and finding out if Brent made it!
-
This seems a very accurate description of btc to me, and also one which depends on two things: btc being hard money, and btc being usable as money for trade.
-
Trying to keep it short: Money used for Money-Commodity-Money trades is capital. This is how an industrialist uses money. Contrast this to the Commodity-Money-Commodity use of money by say a poor farmer.
-
It's interesting that you ask if Saylor is downplaying btc as an asset, when the clip you played has him describing it as capital. In classical political economy, capital is a specific role played by hard money.
-
I love the episode 666 daemonic challenge plan. One idea for a challenge would be to run Linux binaries or even a Linux container. I think Brent in particular might enjoy NetBSD on some dumpster hardware. It can run on remarkably small machines!
-
Happy episode 100! I hope the show keeps being worth you making it, because I sure appreciate listening to it. Banger of an episode 99 too 👍
-
I'm simultaneously sick to death of hearing about AI, and enjoying LUP's AI coverage. You all are on a very, very short list of exceptions, because you strike a good balance. Both in terms of the amount of coverage, but also in being neither cheerleaders nor thought-free haters. I'm pretty much aligned with Brent, and like he clearly is, I'm enjoying hearing Chris and Wes's AI adventures
-
Minor time-travel boost from episode 657. Thanks for putting in all the time and effort for the planet nix and scale coverage! Picking mtr in 2026 is hilarious, but it's still a great tool
-
Looking forward to the SCaLE and Planet Nix coverage! Here's some sats to help with the travel. If you see any of the nix/bsd people down there, I'd love to hear about it. I find that particular combination intriguing. Wechsel sounds insane, but then I've done exactly that in the past with a Perl script.
-
I love that ThinkBox case! I wish I'd known about it back when I could afford 4 HDDs!
-
I don't see any reason why btc couldn't stay under the cost of mining a coin for quite a while. The miners with reserves would keep going, and the small ones wouldn't make it. But my prediction is that it doesn't stay below $60k for long, exactly because this idea is widespread and people will start buying again if it does
-
Loved the discussion of all the bots and especially the talk with Abe
-
Congratulations on 20 years of podcasting, Chris! Thanks for the van tips. I'll look first at monitoring internal temp, and freshwater temp and levels.
-
Loved the This Old Network segment! I'd be curious to hear if Brent's started to automate his van yet. Mine is completely un-automated and I'm not sure where to start
-
Just food for thought. I do wonder what the eventual effects might be for bitcoin, hopefully positive!
-
Welcome back for the new year! Whilst I prefer the shows not focused on US-internal politics, I know there'll be some of that, it's only natural for a US based show. If we're talking about the US Fed, though ... what do you think about the NY Fed holding 7000 tonnes of gold on behalf of foreign governments ? After invading Venezuela, the US might be able to steal its bitcoin reserves, or maybe not. The gold in NY is much easier to steal. If I wanted a sovereign reserve, I know where I'd look!
-
Love the track! Nice pick, Chris. Filoxera: love it
-
I've been enjoying the balance of the show recently, keep up the good work!
-
A data point for Chris: my NetBSD desktop is a Thinkcentre M710q, so a generation older than the 720. They can both take 32GB RAM. Mine has 16 and a second disk. Measured from mains, it idles at 12W, and uses around 25-30W under load. For the listeners, how about jovinauts? https://fountain.fm/show/dWiuBeqpDSM86AwXRXov @nevent1qvzqqqp…
